new patch kills cpu

just downloaded latest xp patches and now system takes up 80-100% of cpu for the last 3 hours (non critical patches, but recommended), ie since i rebooted. running xp pro, SP1, on Vaio 1.6 GHZ

Since they are NON critical.........uninstall them
