Yesterday, Windows XP on my laptop prompted me to change my
password as only 13 days were left for it's expiry. I
changed my password (typed it the 2nd time around to
confirm). Today when I opened my computer and filled in the
new password, which is an all-digit password (so no issues
of capslock), it refused to recognize my password and as a
result I cannot log on. I tried using the old password but
it doesn't accept that one as well. I am in bind - how do I
start using my computer???

Logon as the Administrator from the Safe Mode and reet the password
for the user from here.
Start
CONTROL userpasswords2
Go Advanced > Advanced and double-click the user in the right pane of
the window. Tick "Password never expires" to avoid having to change
the password again.

Thanks, but how do you logon as an administrator? When i go
into safe mode, i am still stuck with having to enter a
password. Is there supposed to be a generic administrator
password? Or else, I go into the Bios setup utility and I
don't see anything there that can help.

Thanks

usually user name is Administrator
and in 99% cases password is blank.
after you login, start-->run
type in
CONTROL userpasswords2
find your user account rightclick and select `reset password`

Thanks..but looks like i am in the 1% for whom it is NOT
blank. There has got to be a way around it besides having
the OS installed again. Any suggestions???
