OK, simple question, I want to add a page to a web, but I
want it to look like the rest of the pages. If I click on
add- new page or web- I get a page with the right theme,
but none of the frames, header, or buttons that all the
other pages have. Do I have to add them all in one at a
time? How do I add pages to my template generated web
that looks and works like the ones that came stock?

1. Open a representative, existing page.
2. Delete everything thta you wouldn't want in a new page.
3. Choose Save As from the File menu.
4. When the Save As dialog box appears, set Save As Type
to FrontPage Template.
5. Click Save.

Then, to start a new page:

1. Choose New from the File menu, and then Page or Web.
2. On the New Page Or Web Task pane, click Page Templates.
3. When the Page Template dialog box appears, choose the
template you saved in step 5 (above).

Safer to first do the Save As, then delete the stuff you don't want.

Thanks! That worked, sort of. It wouldn't let me save
the Banner at the top of the page blank, so I just put an
X in it. Now on new pages I cannot change the banner at
all. Ideas?

Also, in FP 2000, I could paste a hyperlink into the box
in the hyperlink wizard, now I can't. Why did that change?

I did as you said to create a new page, where is it? I
look under the navigation tab and the page isn't there.

Ugg! I was hoping it would be more intuitive.

After you save the new page, you then have to drag it into Navigation View.

Drag it from where? I can't see the page anywhere to put
the cursor on it. As soon as I click out of the new page
and go to another, poof, it's gone. I can't find it
again.

What kind of banner is this?

Curious. What version of FP are you using?

It's the banner that the wizard put at the top of the page.

Well, it would be if i could make it work. I get a new
page but after i make the changes and click out to another
page, poof, it's gone. Where did it go!?!? I look in the
nav page and it doesn't show the new page. Frustrating....

Are you saving the page after making your changes?

Yes, I select new- page or web- a window opens on the
right that has a number of selections, I click on what i
have named "blank" which is the page that i saved as you
instructed earlier, the new page opens with all the
buttons and baners like i wanted, i fill in the page with
whatever information i want on that page, and save it.
then i click to the navigation view to make sure it is
where i want it and there is nothing to show that i
created a new page. only the original pages are still
there. Should i drag the "blank" page over from the
window on the right while in nav view and place it where i
want it?

After clicking on navigation view, you then have the drag the new page
"blank" from the Folder List panel into navigation view and connect it.

This is maddening. The new page "blank" is not in the
folder list. I saved it and it's gone, like 20 or so
other "blank"s. If I click on new-page or web- I get a
nwe page or web window that opens on the right, "blank" is
there, but it doesn't drag. If I click on it, the whole
process starts again, I have a new page but it doesn't
exist in the web anywhere I can find it.

Try using a file name other than "blank.htm", like newpage1.htm

What do you mean by this? What error message did you receive?

Again, what do you mean by this? What error message did you
receive?

When you right-click the banner and choose Properties from the
shortcut menu, what dialog box do you receive?

Try View Reports - All Files (or recently added files) to find out where you have saved the pages

Chris,
Let's completely start over.
This explanation is not aimed to undermine anyone else who's been trying to
help, particularly not Jim, but listen, I'm gonna make this extremely easy for
you. Follow these steps closely, in order.

1. Start in the Navigation View and decide off of which existing page you want
the new page. Right-click that box of the existing page and add the new page.
2. Before you do anything else, right-click the new page little box, and Rename
to whatever describes it. Realize that whatever you rename it to at this step
will be its new .htm name. You can change it later, don't sweat it right now.
To change it later, go to Folders View and right-click it again, then Rename.
But don't do that right now.
3. Now, still from the Navigation View, go to a representative page that you
know has all the elements you want. Banners and all.... OK.
4. As soon as you get to that representative page, go to Code View or HTML
View. Hit Control-A. All the code is now selected.
5. With all that code selected, hit Control-C.
6. Now, go directly back to Navigation View and double-click the little box for
that new page you made.
7. As soon as you get there, it is obviously completely blank. As soon as you
get there, go straight to Code/HTML View.
8. Hit Control-A, selecting the tiny bit of code that's there and hit DELETE.
Now immediately hit Control-V. Instantly all of that good code from the
original page now builds your new page, banners, scripts, everything.

What I often do is to actually leave a "base_code" page in Navigation View
(base_code is just a name I give it) It is my version of what Jim was getting
at which is to save that page as a template.

Hope this helps you get it all straightened out. Another thing to always
remember about Frontpage is that its dang quirky about new stuff showing up in
the files and folders. Every time you get to looking for something/file, and
you think it oughta be in the list, hit F5.

Tim

This is maddening. The new page "blank" is not in the
folder list. I saved it and it's gone, like 20 or so
other "blank"s. If I click on new-page or web- I get a
nwe page or web window that opens on the right, "blank" is
there, but it doesn't drag. If I click on it, the whole
process starts again, I have a new page but it doesn't
exist in the web anywhere I can find it.

Chris -

You've been asked this before, but I haven't seen an answer from you.
Are you opening a web before you start working with your pages?

Craig
