NEW PACK message from MS Internet Security Center

I have just received an email, puporting to come from MS
Internet Security Center, telling me that it is the latest
version of security update, the "November 2027, Cumulative
Patch" update. It tells me to run an attached file, etc.
Is this genuine or a (virus-containing)hoax? How can one
tell?
Any advice will be gratefull received by this novice.

It is not genuine. MS does not send updates via email. For more
information see
http://www.microsoft.com/security/antivirus/authenticate_mail.asp

If you believe there are updates available for your computer, you should use
Start, Windows Update to get them.
