New OS?

It is neither hot nor is it new anymore. However it is what Microsoft wants
you to have. If your hardware is top notch Vista is Ok. It offers a lot more
built in security features than XP and has native DVD burning capabilities.
As an operating system though it is not superior to XP or Windows 2000 for
that matter.

Vista requires a lot more Hardware capabilities then XP.
Minimum 128MBs graphics to run Aero(which is just glam anyway)
And realistically 2 Gig of RAM to operate.
And that is not a flash setup!

I have both, but I still do my work in XP Pro.
Windows 7 is coming out in 2010, to replace Vista.
Wait 'til then.

In other words, for an arm and a leg I can have what I already paid for to third party software companies.

Thanks

I've given it a good try and still prefer XP...
Unless you have some pretty decent hardware, Vista is going to run rather
slowly.
Basically though, a dual core CPU, with 2 gigs of RAM
and a medium-end PCIe video card should suffice...

Hmmm, I read somewhere that the primary purpose for Vista was to require and bump up sales for new rounds of hardware.

I think I'll wait until an OS comes out that requires purchase of a Starship to run it on. I already have 3 or 4 spare Starships in my back yard and will put the Whipsaw - Katzenjammer - Kitchensinker - Hotnew - Operating System on them when it comes out. (But only if it will feed my cat in the morning and take out the garbage in the evening.)

Thanks

Is Vista better than XP Pro in any meaningful way other than being hot/new?

I tried it and did not find it to be that good. I plan on staying with
XP. You know that Vista is going to have massive holes that MS will
have to patch--just look at the updates for XP.
