Hello,

Im having a few problems with the best way to go to setup a satellite
office. We are opening a new location and I have purchased and built a new
server for this location. A permanent VPN connection will be put in place to
provide connectivity between the sites. One network will sit on 192.168.100.0
and the other will be 192.168.101.0

That being said, what would my best approach be? Create a new domain and
setup trusts between the domains? create a child domain? One issue is that
all of the users located in the new office already have active directory
accounts as they logon to citrix and our sharepoint servers. I would prefer
to not have to start them from scratch. Any ideas would be great. Thx

Single Domain.
No "children"
Domain Controller at each location.
Different Subnet for each location.

Use the Sites and Subnets objects in Active Directory to control the Domain
Controller interaction. The purpose of AD Sites is exactly for what you are
doing. Check MS's site for documents and WhitePapers on deploying Active
Directory over slow WAN Links. Anything less than 10mbps is considered
"slow".

Hi thanks a lot for the tips. Thats exactly what I was looking for. One last
thing, if i need to setup a dhcp server as well as dns server will it default
to its Domain controller in the new site or will it try and contact our main
office?

The Domain controllers will already run DNS,...that is good enough.

You can run DHCP on the DCs as well,...have one DHCP at each location. My
DCs all run DNS, WINS, and DHCP on the same box,...each DC is identically
configured except the DHCP uses Exclusions to prevent the Scopes from
overlapping,...but that overlap won't be an issue with you if each site is a
unique Subnet with a single DHCP service at each location.
