I'm wondering why I don't get the message (new newsgroups available)
anymore.
This happened after I switch from MSN 56K internal modem to a high speed
cable modem ISP service.
Previously this new newsgroup message would appear about every other day and
now it hasn't appeared for at least a month.
I'm using the same news reader as before also; Outlook Express 6.

Err, there aren't any?

Anne, I just got a notification for, I think, four newsgroups. You should be
seeing it soon. I have to say that the norm these days appears to be around
2-3 per month. If you do not download the groups, the same message keeps
coming back, announcing the same "new" newsgroups.

Check Outlook Express, Tools, Options, General tab to verify that you have
notify me of new newsgroups checked. Notification of new newsgroups applies
only to the server that you are using. If you are using your ISP news
server, you will get notified of new newsgroups on your ISP server {provided
they support such notification}. If you are using msnews.microsoft.com, you
will get notification when newsgroups are added to the Microsoft server.

Yes, there have been.

Newsgroups do not propagate to all servers at the same time - indeed my
server will carry groups that yours doesn't and vice versa. Unless you are
with the same ISP as the original poster (and indeed on the same Usenet
server as the OP within that ISP) then you cannot state that...

Sure I can. Whether or not they are available to everyone at the same time
does not disprove whether or not new ones are made.
