Just got a second computer, and bought a router (D-Link DI-524) so our
Internet connection could be shared. That works fine, but I'd also like to
network the two machines.

Hardwired machine runs Win 98SE, wireless (new computer) runs Win XP. I've
been told it's difficult or impossible to network since operating systems
are different.

If this is the case, is there a way to link the two machines temporarily to
transfer a lot of data to the new computer?

Thanks for any advise/info, Todd Mcd

Why would Microsoft produce operating systems that couldn't talk to each
other. They would have to be truely crazy or your friends are.

Windows networking is simple and instinctive to most people but apparently
not to you.

The first thing to do is turn the XP firewall off and go from there. Router
will provide adequate protection via NAT.

Any computer that can access the Internet, can access any other computer on
the Internet.

Think about it.

All the Internet is, is a bunch of Networked Computers. Apples, Windows,
Unix, Linux, all versions, all file formats, all talking to one another.

If you can't get 98 or ME to talk to XP, it's not the fault of the
computer...
