I hope someone can help .... I have installed a new
wireless router and for some reason cannot obtain a valid
IP address....no one from my internet service provider or
router company can help me....one guy said to try to make
a new network connection --- I have no idea how to do that.
Neither do we, based on your description. It sounds like your ISP
is confusing a stand-alone router with a Windows box where you create
a new (dial-up) connection sometimes.
Even on Windows, the NICs create their own connection object automatically
(as opposed to dial and VPN where you must create them.)
Now, what kind of router do you have? What sort of connection to the
Internet?
(Dial, DSL, cable?)
Where do you plug it in? (DSL ----- Router ------Your Machines?)
Do they use DHCP or assign you an IP address? Did you fill in that address
or set
the "Internet connection" on the router to be DHCP?
Do you have the management software (or web page) installed and working to
manage
the wireless router?
This wireless router does have at least ONE Ethernet connection to the DSL
or cable modem
(or ISDN instead, or whatever) doesn't it? What cable did you use to hook
it together to
the DSL/cable modem?
What equipment did the ISP give you?
Sure, but you're going to need to be VERY SPECIFIC if we are to help you
effectively. (Write everything down that the ISP tells you, or that you do
to the
router.)
