I received a new Sony Walkman MP3 player today. When Vista attempts to
install the driver I get the following error:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your
device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an
error while attempting to install it.
MTP Device
The system cannot find the file specified.

Sony Tech Support told me to download kb/940199 which refers to a corrupt
Infcache.1 file. When I try to install the hotfix, I get the message that it
is not applicable to my system.

I plugged the MP3 player into my husband's XP laptop and it worked fine.
My computer is up to date on all updates.

Is this likely to be a Vista problem or a problem with the device? Sony
blames my computer. I am not having trouble with any other devices.

Thanks for any help,
Erin-Joi

Somehow when I was trying to get my CD/DVD device to work, I must have
selected "MTP" -- ever since Vista has tried to find a driver and can't. I
get error message that the installation has failed because there is no MTP
driver. How do I turn off this attempted installation? Thanks

Did you find a solution because I'm having the same problem and I don't
know how to fix it.

The thread has been DEAD SINCE FEBRUARY 23rd.

Check the date next time.
