can i remove the cpu & fan together and put them into the replacrment board
? or do i have to take them apart and retape the cpu ?

Yep.....just unclip 'em as a unit and reinstall them as a unit.

It depends on the socket and whether you can release the
locking lever with the heatsink still attached.

I'm upgrading my board from a Gigabyte GA-7N400-L to a Gigabyte
GA-7NNXP ..there from the same series of Socket A Boards AMD Barton CPU
the only major difference,,, is it has on-board SATA plug-ins they both
have Awards Bio's so will i have to change anything in the bio's or will
they be the same? Should i wait for a service man to come and do the
switch or can i do it?

I get the impression you've never done this before. I'd advise you to
have someone with experience help you. I recently made the exact same
mobo upgrade that you're making (7n400-l to 7nnxp). While I did install
a new CPU and fan for the new mobo, I simply took the old one off of
the 400 and installed it in another computer. Check out Tomshardware.com
or a similar site for CPU upgrades. There are also VERY helpful AMD
newsgroups.
