Can anyone point me in the right direction for a solution
to the following problem please? I recently changed my
motherboard, which I have also previously done before,
and for XP Pro (with SP1) to recognise this I had to do a
repair/installation of XP PRO using the installation
disc. However, this time when about to install windows at
the point where it says 'installation will complete in
approx 39 minutes' it go's no further (4 hours later I
retried, and retried etc). I have tried various options
to correct this but with no luck. Now - this time I had
done the Beta SP2 updates and I fear this is stopping the
installation from completing. Could anyone confirm or not
if this is the case and offer any solutions. Thank you in
advance. Nige.

Yep...had the same problem trying to repair an XP installation
that was running a SP2 beta. You'll need to reformat and perform
a "clean install". You could have avoided this by uninstalling
the SP2 beta prior to changing your motherboard.

Thanks for the quick response! would you know if I
installed a fresh copy to another HDD could I then
recover my data from the original drive in any way? (I
have tried this but cannot get access as it says I dont
have permission etc)

You would have needed to save the encryption signanure for the previous
users on the original hard drive. You will now need to locate a utility
which will allow you to read the encrypted files (I know that there is one
for XP but I can not remember its name!)

Thank you Yyves, I am not 100% sure at what you mean but
I have ERD which allows me certain types of access to
files etc . I will experiment with that on a ghosted Hdd
to see what I can find.

You should be able to "Take Ownership" of the previous folders on the old
harddrive. If you do your install and go to the Help & Support and search
for Take Ownership then follow the instructions.
