I had a machine with a faulty motherboard so I bought a new one and it came
with a part that I don't recognise. It's plastic, black, square and flat,
about 3mm thick and 90 x 92mm. It's got a metallic door thingy on it that
slides to one side when I push it. On the back it's got a small round metal
disk thingy in the centre. It doesn't fit into my computer anywhere that I
can find. What the heck is it??

Thanks,
Michael

Yeah that's the one. It says "HD" on it but I've only got an "SD" slot. I
guess since the SD stores 1gig and this thing is much bigger it must store
huge amounts of data?

Michael

You haven't said what motherboard it is, but I'm guessing it has SATA
and/or RAID drivers on it for the hard drive (hence HD).

I think you were as astonished as the rest of us Derek that the lad didn't
recognize a floppy disc. Sign o' the times, as Roxy Music sing.....;-)

I did a search and HD stands for High Density. Damn, this thing must store a
*huge* amount of data.

Yes, I wasn't sure whether to answer, as I didn't want to feed any trolls.

you must be trolling...
What's the point?

Do you think you should advertise the fact that your "thingy" measures
only 90mm and is floppy ?

That would be ok, what's a worry is that it's only 90mm and stiff.
