I am about to install the above in my existing PC. I recall hearing messages
that to do so in a WinXP Pro PC can be fraught with problems.

Is that right?

At the very least, you will have to re-activate Windows. Not a big deal. At worst, you'll have to do a repair install (most probable), as XP does not like being moved from one vendor's hard disk controller to another. Even different versions of the same chipset can cause problems.

Greetings --

Normally, and assuming either a retail license or a generic
(non-branded) OEM license, unless the new motherboard is virtually
identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same
BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place
upgrade) installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.
