Motherboard Info: MSI 865PE Neo2-P / Pentium 4 478 Socket

I installed this motherboard with a few problems but finally got it running. the Drivers for the auio on board is RealTek Audio '97

i check the device manager and it says its working properly. i did MSI update and got newer drivers for the audio

i plug in my speakers and im getting no sound.

any ideas or help please.

XP has a very nasty habit of wrongly detecting the Avance Sound chip made by RealTech ... also I would throw away, indeed uninstall MSI's auto updater ... it consistently gets it wrong, bin it.

However, the correct drivers are here ... Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers ... uninstall the drivers you have or get XP to 'update' these drivers.

What were your other problems?

how do i get this to update the drivers with that zip file i get from the site?

when i get the zip and extract it, i run the setup in there but nothing happens. the version of the driver in the hardware profiles does not change. and when i try to do the update driver tool and point it to 1 of the folders the zip comes with, nothing happens....

I just read the read me file ... did you?

Are you sure you have the speakers in the right socket?

As I said ... in the past I have had a crap job getting XP to "see" that card.

Uninstall via device mangler and try that way.

Hmmm, just noticed they have Linux drivers ... nice. :thumb:

if the plugs are colour coded that doesnt mean they will work if you match them to the colour of the ports, swap them about and they should work

it looks like the motherboard is bad/dead.

i took it to pc club and they did a bench test on it, cost me 25, and its dead.

guess the thing already had the problem, it was just on its way to death.

i plugged in my printer to the USB slot on the back and boom. it froze on me. didnt want to restart or nething. they tested my CPU on another MB. it worked.

CPU, RAM, Fan for CPU all worked on another MB so this MB is bad. they put a different chip in my MB and it didnt load. used a different video card and it didnt load. so all my **** is good, this MB is garbage.

back to newegg it goes. im so ****ed. i might just buy the MB now from PC Club. they have a asus one there, but its 130$ and this MSI one cost me only 80. whatever we will see. thanks for your guys help.
