I just installed a new Chaintech S1689 MB, but, when I boot into windows 98
all I get is the default VGA display (like what you get in safe mode).

The AIW128 does not show up in device manager (or as a choice under
display), and when I try to manually load the drivers, I am told no I can't

What could be going on?

Can something be wrong with the card, or with the MB (or just its AGP slot)?

Install the video drivers for the ATI video card.

I have tried to load the drivers from the AIW orginal CD, but, Windows
rejects it because it can't find the "device"

Another reason is then the problem computer does not have its modem yet, its
floppy drives don't work, and the laptop I am using can't burn a CD

But, finally when I use the link you gave (or any support link to ATI) I get
a message saying my time has expired. And even allowing cookies and turn off
the firewall don't help.

I finally got my new chaintech S1689 MB to notice that I have a AIW 128
video card.

But, I have run into a problem when I try to us the MMC. When I open file
player, it works fine. However, when I open the TV/capture application the
screen turns blue and the following warning appears:

Fatal Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:00000009. The current Application
will be Terminated. Press any Key to Return to Windows.

After which no ATI application will open unless one reboot. Then if one
tries to use the TV/Capture application again the same warning appears. With
the same results.

I have tried every version of MMC ( and display drivers) from 7.0 to 7.7
with the same results. So I know getting a newer version won't help.
Especailly since every time I try to get in to ATI support I get a "you time
has expires" warnings. So, it has to be something else.

Any Thoughts?
