Building an Intel D865PERL w/P4@3Ghz. When do i update the BIOS? Before I
install the os, using a bootable disk, downloaded from Intel site?

When you are building a brand new system IMHO it is good practice to apply
any BIOS updates prior to OS installation. I also like to grab the newest
versions of all drivers off the net, leaving the driver CDs alone unless
they are necessary for something.

As Phrederick noted, sometimes issues arise with Windows OS when BIOS versions
change.

When you have a problem or device that is specified as fixed in a later
bios. There is no reason to upgrade the bios on a machine with no problems.

Before you install the OS. Changes could be enough to cause issues with a
currently installed OS.

Of course, it's only really necessary if there's something you need to fix
and a new BIOS would help.

Thanks to all. Being a new machine, I'll do it right off. Also, will
grab new chipset drivers and do those too.

Personally I wouldn't update it at all. Unless you know what you're doing.
Because if you run into any problems updating it your mobo will be toast.
I've heard a lot of horror stories about it.
