System specs:
Intel P4 3.6, socket 775, 800FSB
2 x Kingston 1024 DDR2 (533MHz)
XFX Geforce 6600 GT PCIx16 graphics
Antec Neo HE 550w PSU
2 pairs of identical Seagate Barracuda and Western Digi Caviar PATA
HDDs

This lot was running XP pro on an Asus P5AD2-E Deluxe board but the
thing was crashing with annoying regularity. I attempted to rebuild
but the install either hangs on the 34 min mark ("Installing Devices",
even with everything except the essentials removed) or occasionally it
will get to 21 mins then lose the output to the monitor and hang.

The XP disc is a genuine original from Microsoft (for the benefit of
those of you who will point me towards a possible faulty disc) and I
have tried to install on freshly factory formatted HDDs with no
success. I have also tested the memory (fine), tried different HDDs
and PSU. I have even tried on a brand new Asus P5AD2-E Premium board
with exactly the same outcome!

I have read various posts which suggest that the problem is most likely
compatibility issues with the board (including one suggestion that it
doesn't work with the PSU) so I have decided to replace the board. I
want something with an in-built RAID controller (not SATA) and was
thinking about a Foxconn 955X7AA but various posts seem a bit negative
about the manufacturer.

Thoughts and alternative suggestions would be appreciated!

Well youre xp installation would fail if all youre drives are connected when
you install xp,you must physically unplug them except for the drive to have
xp
on it (reset jumper pins on the drive 1st).Also,RAID works great on a SATA
drive but an IDE drive doesnt work very well at all, youre transfer rate is
only
100kps,unless you have maxtor hds, they can run at 133kps,SATA runs at 150kps.
Also, the controllers for IDE RAID are usually average to poor, let alone the
softw-
are,chk out intel.com/downloads.Thiers nothing for a IDE RAID,as for
software,
they wont have 1 download.
