I have just installed a new motherboard (Asus A7v600) with
a build in network card. However, I cannot get onto the
Internet with this device. There is a connection, as I get
a flashing green light from when I plug in the patch cable
to my cable modem. It seems that the DCHP server cannot be
found.

I have tried buying 2 new network cards, and I have the
same problem with them. HOWEVER, when I hooed up an old
3Com 3C900B card (only 10, not 10/100), I am able to get a
good connection. My theory is that there is something
about the drivers on the built-in card and the cards I
bought (Microsoft's card and a D-Link DFE-530TX).

Anyone have any suggestions, as I would like to use the
faster built in card.

Thanks

If you are connecting the built in LAN direct to the cable modem check you
have a crossover cable. If you are connecting the built in LAN to a router
which then goes to the cable modem, you'll need a standard cat5 cable.
Since you mention both NICs and a D-Link device, I'm not sure what your
setup is.

I am connecting from the computer to a Linksys hub, which
is then connecting to the Cable Modem. The cabling should
be fine, as it works with the old 3Com card. This setup
has NOT changed. What has changed is the new mobo, and a
reinstall of Win XP. The problem is with the built in card
on the Asus mobo and the two "new" cards I tried.

Thanks

Never mind.... just tried something I should have tried
earlier.... removed the older networking card, reactivated
the builtin network card.... AND UNPLUGGED THE MODEM for
two minutes.. when it was plugged back in and everything
was turned on, got a connect right away....

Thanks for the help
