New MMC drivers record to DVD

I have had a 9800SE AIW card for a while and have recently got round to
testing the video capture side of things. Records from TV fine and I can
plug in the old VHS and capture tape OK.

The only trouble I've really had is getting the software to burn the
recordings to DVD, 99% of the time their software gets most of the way
through the encoding and then craps out with an error.

Just downloaded the new 9.03 version and the option to make a DVD seems to
have vanished altogether.

I was trying out the ATI and the Omega drivers and somewhere along the way
something has gone a little awry i.e. ugly black blocks on Yahoo messenger.

I'm going to wipe my WIn2K partition and reinstall everything. Just wanted
to know if the make DVD option is supposed to be there in the new software,
if not I'll try and persevere with the older ones.

Many thanks
Karl

I believe that the "Make DVD" option you refer to is only available with
certain ATI CDROM Installations and certainly isn't included with the
downloadable drivers/software. I'm running MMC 9.02 with Catalyst 4.10
drivers under XP and there's no such option on my setup. The closest I get
is right clicking on a file in the library gives format conversion/export
options. The resulting file would still need to be burned to a DVD
separately though.

If you want that option with your new installation I'd have a look on your
installation CDROM and see if the DVD Burning software comes in a separately
installing program (perhaps in its own subfolder) and try to install it that
way. If that's not an option then I'd contact ATIs tech support and ask them
the official way to get that functionality with newer MMC versions.

Good luck!

Just had a quick look on the ATI site and it seems that some versions come
with Pinnacle software. Mine didn't, however the option the option to
create DVD was in the Library section (even if it was well hidden!).

Anyway for the time being got round the probem, had to order a few bits and
pieces and bought an OEM of the Nero suite. Done a couple of testers, it
seems to work fine and it gives me a few more options to boot.

I have an ATI AIW 9000 Pro that came with ATI version of Pinnacle Studio 8
that has been mostly useless as it will not capture from anything but
firewwire camcorder. Removing and installing non ATI ver. did nothing to
remember this. Good decision to go with Nero.
