new message notification delays typing in open message

Outlook 2007

Whenever I am typing a message (new message, reply and forwards) and receive
a new message, the new message notification/preview box appears at the bottom
right of the screen and for the time that it is visible, nothing that I type
appears on the screen. I have to wait until the new message notification
dissappears before I can start typing again. It's really frustrating because
I am constantly losing letters and whole words if I continue to type without
stopping to let the notification disaappear.

I tried changing the length of the notification to the shortest number of
seconds possible, but it still does this. Is the only way to avoid this just
to turn off the notification/preview box?

Sounds like focus changed to the new window. What happens when you *click*
back in your new-mail window and start typing?
