New memory install on HP Laserjet 4P

Just installed what was supposed to have been 16 MB of memory for this
printer. However the installed memory count went from 2048K to 3072K.
I put it in the top slot. I do not have the manual for this printer,
did I do something wrong or did I get ripped off?

In the past I've put 16 meg sims into my LJ4M+ and they've not been
correctly recognised. I was told it was because the pins that identify
the sim type are not standard on all types of sim, even where the
address data and other pins are the same.

I found 4 meg sims were recognised correctly and stuffed a bunch of
those in.
