I am so desperate to get this fixed as the pc is quite new and my girlfriend is going nuts! I will be happy to answer any furthur queries you have about this problem.

More system info is needed please

Operating system is a must!

Also the make of your computer; ie Dell, Sony, Acer etc

Erm why did you do that?

xp media centre
dell 5150
and the answer to the last question is because I am a stupid fool who never learns but to be honest I thought it was a virus!
If you can get me pc going again I will forever be your in your debt etc etc creep creep.
cheers
Andy

How long have you had the computer?

According to Dell its no longer available!

This is what the it does;

WINLOGON.EXE: starts the Local Security Authority (LSASS.EXE)
WINLOGON.EXE: loads the Graphical User Identification and Authentication DLL (MSGINA.DLL by default)
WINLOGON.EXE: displays the logon window
WINLOGON.EXE: starts the services controller (SERVICES.EXE)
** at this point users can logon **

To correct this i'm not sure what you have to do. Bare with us i'm sure someone will be able to help you

got pc year and half ago but only started using it recently.

I think if i had the xp cdrom it would help but dell in all their wisdom don't send them with their pcs any more, they say if you have "problems with your computer" go to the dell website (which is difficult if you have "problems with your computer".........)

cheers!

You are going to have to boot with a Windows XP disc and run the repair console to fix this - as you don't have one are you able to ask your friends if you can borrow theirs?

The only other option is to buy yourself a OEM copy and if its successful you can save it for a clean install another time or for another machine, or if the repair is unsuccessful you will have to then do a clean install.

Here are some "DOS/Windows9X/Me/NT/2K/XP Excellent Bootdisks"

Code:
http://www.bootdisk.com/
Just copy WINLOGON.EXE to your %WINDIR%\System32\ folder (For example: C:\Windows\System32\).

Almost certainly the file IS NOT legal to redistribute, but there's no way for you to get a hold of it without your Windblows CD. The links below are NOT hosted with pcreview, so lets hope they won't be removed.

-Andy- trying to send you this thread by PM but something's wrong with the forum (disabled)... You don't have emails enabled, so can't do that either.

nimd4 - look, I'm really sorry but I had to edit your post. Those files you gave addresses to are not legal to distribute or link to and we don't want Microsucks coming down on the Forum.

So, it grieves me but I've had to remove the links :(

The reason you can't PM -Andy- is because neither of you has made enough posts on the forum yet, I believe each of you have to have made at least 10 posts before the PM service is enabled.

In my opinion those files should be available cos Dell do charge for the various versions of Windows, it sucks they don't supply a full CD.

So, the moral is - don't buy Dell.

Once you both have Private Messaging enabled - or -Andy- enables his e-mail function - by all means correspond, as what you have suggested will almost certainly work.

just to let you know i do have emails enabled so that shouldn't be a problem...

am looking into borrowing an xp cd.
will let you know..
many thanks
