Is it safe to move a harddrive onto a new motherboard without reformatting
and reinstalling? Usually I do - but I have been told by several techs that
WinXP will take care of everything (???) - by installing the new drivers
over the old.

I've also heard that you can erase an "Enum" file and reboot --which will
erase and reinstall all drivers. Only problem is I can't find the file
anywhere.

Is there a safe way to install the old H/D into the new machine without R/R.

Thanks

Dave

ENUM is not a file! It is a section in the Registry which lists out the
hardware configuration. Do not erase this since in XP it does not help with
your problem.

You will need to do a repair re-install so that the XP activation controls
get reset so you can re-request a valid activation.
