Hi there,
I have a question along a similar thread...

I have recently been upgraded to Outlook 2003. My problem is that I only
seet he new mail notifcation envelope in the tak bar for internal emails -
external do not show at all!

I have checked that the option is set under "Advanced Email Options" and
have also set the taskbar options to "Always Show" for the "You have new
unopened items" option.

I have a theory that it might be something to do with rules that were set up
in the earlier version of Outlook but I'm only guessing and would really
appreciate some help if anyone can please!

Many thanks,
Nikki

Are the messages arriving via the same account?

You can test that theory by starting Outlook once with the /cleanrules
command switch.

Hi there,

many thanks for your reply!

They are coming through the same account and I've done a little more
investigating.

I have discovered that with rules that process emails from a specific
recipient, you have to tick the box that performas a second action "Display
Desktop Notification", otherwise it won't notify you, either by Desktop
notification or by placing an envelope icon in the task bar.

With this option check it will display both but I can't see for love nor
money how to get it to just display an envelope!

Many thanks,

Outlook 2003 processes rules prior to the point when the notification icon
is posted to the system tray. So, if you have rules that move all of the
new messages that have arrived since the last send/receive from the Inbox to
other folders, the new mail icon will not be displayed. Only if a new
message remains in the Inbox after rule processing completes will the new
mail icon be displayed.

Thank you so much... that explains it then!

At least I understand now what's happening,

Many thanks for all of your help!
