new mail goes straight to trash

When I receive new mail it goes straight to the trash folder skipping the
inbox.
 
Trash meaning the Junk folder or Deleted Items? Either way, only message
rules or blocked senders can do this, (unless it's a third party spam
program folder). Check blocked senders. You probably blocked your own
address.
 
You need to be more precise in your problem description since
Windows Mail does not have a "Thrash" folder as such.
