Any one figured out how to xfer the OS setup on one hard drive to

This can be done, but it reqires specialsed tools, like the Bare Metal
Restore from Acronis True Image.

The issue is that the driver set for one machine will not be the same as for
another, and problems are almost certain to arise, some of them rather
serious.

If youre posting that question then it simply isnt possible for you....
However, youre best bet,on the old pc,install xp cd,run the File Transfer
Wizard
from xp cd (other options),set as old pc,select data to collect, collect in
a new
folder that you created, once its thru, move folder to cd.In new pc,set FTW as
new pc,run the wizard from xp cd.This wont transfer system files, but will
transfer all of yours & set up settings as they were.

Imaging software and a repair installation to update the HAL.

Yes, but Ted should also note that although a repair installation
usually works, if the new motherboard is different enough from the old
one, a repair installation doesn't always work, and sometimes a clean
installation is required.

So Ted, be aware that although you can probably do this without
installing "the OS & then all the other programs," occasionally it's
not possible.
