I merge a whole bunch of cells together thinking that I can type text just
like I do in word. However, if the text is too long the merged cell will
hide it. I want a new line within the merged cell so I don't have to jump
into a new cell to enter the text because there is still blenty of space on
top of the merged cell. How do I do that?

Thank

Hi Raymond,
There is no need to post to more than one newsgroup.
If you do no know what newsgroup, simply post to microsoft.public.excel.misc

Select the cell(s) and format, cells, alignment, (turn on) wrap cells

Hi
ALT+ENTER

Note: Normally one should avoid merged cells and should not use Excel
as a word processor :-)))

Hi Raymond,
The answers Frank and I may look completely different to you.

Format, cells, Alignment, wrap cells
will cause current and future text entered to be wrapped.
You can select single or multiple cells, or multiple cell areas
when changing formatting.l

Frank's answer of Alt+Enter
will cause a new line to appear within a cell by inserting a
CHAR(10) at that point. When used it turns on cell wrap.

Frank mentioned use of Merged cells should be avoided
Some alternatives can be found at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/merge.htm#alternatives

Use of concatenation with CHAR(10) will not turn on cell wrap
in itself and you would see square printers bullets (unprintable
character in that font) appearing, until you turn on cell wrap.
