New larger C (boot) drive

Due to disk space and various drive crashes in the last few months I’ve considered putting a new and larger boot drive into my system, I now have a 20 gig C drive and have a 80 gig in mind! My question is due to my Windows XP operating system. In the past with Windows 3.1, 95 or 98 I would remove as many of the power plugs to CD or other powered options as possible including plug-in PC boards not required for the two hard drives. After formatting the new drive as a D drive (slave), I would move the contents of the old C drive onto the new D drive, after this a changing of the patch on the new drive would enable it as the C drive! Because this procedure would replace the C drive while maintaining all of the initial systems integrity and it normally could be done in an hour, I have used this procedure often in the past! My question is will this procedure work with my Windows XP operating system?

There is no reason it shouldn't. WHy an 80Gb drive when I've seen 120Gb
drives selling new for around $100.

Just keep the original C: drive in case things get screwed up.
