My Windows XP didnt validate so bought new key then tried entering it as per
instructions. MS says yes its valid. I get the key update tool which goes
through the process and now says it 'cant be updated on my computer. This
may be due to technical difficulties or connectivity problems'...
What is happening here? As a student the pc is essential and now I cant get
security updates etc... and I still have that 'pain in the butt' Not Genuine
notice popping up all the time!!!!
Yes I have tried it with caps lock both on and off

This newsgroup is for the general discussion of programming with the
Microsoft .NET framework. Your issue is an installation issue for
Windows XP (not related to this newsgroup at all).
microsoft.public.windows might be a better newsgroup for your issue:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows/topics?lnk

Also, there should be some kind of free phone support for installation
issues from either your PC maker or from Microsoft. I'd try the free
phone support first (quicker), then try out the
microsoft.public.windows newsgroup if you can't get anything resolved
through phone support.

Good luck!

On one of the screens you see for entering the key, there is a way mentioned
to validate over the phone. That should be your next recourse, as well as
asking in a group with "windows" in the name. This is a programmers group.
Though we may be able to help your situation, those groups may have more
experience with such issues.
