Folks -- I am going to be switching to Charter soon (getting a cable modem).

I want to post to newsgroups, but don't want my email harvested for the
likes of Swen.

If I just modigy my email in OE for newsgroup posting, will that do it? (eg:
I've added a nospm to my address)

Most people would recommend that you add the nospam *after* the @.
And make sure that the result on the right is an invalid domain.

The way you have it, a spammer will still put a small load on your
domain trying to send to an nonexistent user. The other way is for
the spammer to spend some cycles searching for an nonexistent domain.

I'm not an admin, but now I'm wondering: Does using this methnod
increase the load on Verislime?

Don't add a "nospam." I've read where harvesters are getting smarter and
removing those common words.

Don't ever use a domain and tld that are real, as you will allow the
harvester to flood a real place and real person with the spam or virus.
For example, "nospam.com" is a *real* domain, and I'm sure the webmaster
there is not happy. I've seen mungs of (e-mail address removed) and I guess the
Hormel people don't like this, either.

Make it: (e-mail address removed)

Is this better??

Yes, that will do.

I do find it funny though, that when I suggest to someone (by far not just
you, Mel) to use "example.invalid" they invariably use some other word.

The main point is to never use a mung that *could* be someone's real
address or domain, or that would be emailed to a catch-all address.
