I am trying to install Vista Home Premium on an older desktop I have. I
replaced the hard disk and I think I have it formatted. I installed UBUNTU
on it and it worked. I now want to install Vista. When I boot from the DVD,
everything starts out fine. When the first screen for inputting the required
language appears, the monitor has 19 vertical lines over the screen. I can
still click the buttons, but I can't read the screens.

What have I done wrong? Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not sure. How can I find out? Sorry to be such a dork. I just tried
looking for the info at the Sony site and found that they do not recommend
Vista for this machine. Am I out of the bucks I paid? Thanks, thanks,
thanks, for any help.

Why I asked about Video Bob, is because Vista Home Premium requires a minimm
of 126MBs grahics(to run Aero) and at least 1G of RAM, just to run it.

You can tell how much RAM it has by Start>Right-clicking on My
Computer>Left-click Properties>CPU and RAM is under General there.

Sony would have all the hardware specs for your computer at their site.

If you live in North America you can contact Microsoft about a refund. I am
not sure how many days you have but it was between 60-90 earlier.

I've never heard of anything like that.

Got a cite for it?

Only on OS and Office. It is printed on the packaging box in small print on the back of the packaging. I have no idea how it works but I also find it strange since I never heard of somebody saying "Woo-Hooo I got my refund""

Same here.

I know of no retailer that will do such an exchange/refund if the
software package has been opened.

Must be that the exchange is done by mail with MS.
