Hi All,
We are in the process of setting up a complete new Infrastructure Server
2003/XP clients.
The existing infrastructure setup is as follows –
Main Site: Hosts the PDC and a further 25 servers and is connected via the
cloud to a satellite site.
Satellite Site: 9 Servers (Including the BDC) connected to various router
and hubs. Scanner- Plotter are networked and used by a number of PC’s.
I need the Scanner and Plotter to be retained as legacy equipment as they
cannot in their current status be attached to the new system because they
have not been approved by the accreditors and pose a possible security risk.
(The old infrastructure will cease to exist once migration has take place and
will be physically removed). I have two solutions in mind
1. Keep the existing Infrastructure but not connected to the Main Site (an
Autonomous system).
2. Keep two PC’s and attach the Scanner / Plotter directly to the PC’s. The
scanner has a Fire wire connection and the Plotter has a Cat5 connection.
The questions surrounding both solutions are…would users still be able to
access the autonomous system if the links through the cloud to the PDC have
been severed? Would we need new user ID’s to connect to the Autonomous system?
How would the connection to the PC be made with a CAT5 cable? Would we need
to install some software in order for a direct connect to work? Presumably we
would need a fire wire card installed on one PC to make the direct connect to
the Scanner.
Could someone offer any advice on any of the above, I would be grateful for
any other solution that you could think of and what the questions/remedies
surrounding the solutions are.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
