New IE Windows won't open

Windows XP, IE 6.0

Any link I click on that would normally open the link in
a new window suddenly won't work. It creates a new task
on the task bar but the new window never opens.

Not sure if this is related but since this started I can
also not download from Windows Update site. I get to the
point where I hit accept on the user agreement, the
download progress box pops up and that's where it stays -
forever.

Please send suggestions if you can. Thank you!

Hi Tim - Go to Start|Run and enter "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the
quotes). After you get a Success message, re-boot. If that doesn't work,
then check out the following article and do the additional steps outlined
there:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click a Link

If that doesn't help, then try installing/re-installing hotfix 818529.

Hi All,

I am having the exact same problem. I have been through all the recommended
fixes in the link provided (indecently I can't open the link without cut and
pasting it into a windows I open myself). I would love to install the
recommended XP updates, but can't as the process stops with a blank "--Web
Page Dialog" after all terms have been accepted..

I also need to avoid re-formatting and re-installing my PC from scratch.

The only way I can get around this is to user Netscape, but that also
doesn't help when trying to install the Windows Update.

Any help appreciated.
John
