It seems that we are being overwhelmed with worms, viruses, trojans &
all the other crud that we have to put up with also there are many
programs That you can install to fix these problems.
Question:
I'm installing a new 160GB HDD so what do I need to to do to have
good protection & not over do it also if I do get something what
programs do I need to get rid of it ?
Thanks

Hello,

I am the author of Super Ad Blocker with SUPERAntiSpyware. My product
will provide good real-time protection against new
spyware/adware/malware and also offers excellent scanning protection:
http://www.superadblocker.com

Super Ad Blocker offers a fully functional 15-day trial. You can scan
and clean your computer and then remove Super Ad Blocker if you do not
wish to keep it.

If that does not find and/or remove the spyware/adware on your machine,
you can submit a diagnostic and I will diagnose your machine for free
and post the results back to the group and update our rules with
anything found:

the software and are free to try the software, clean/fix your system,
and then uninstall.

The most important tool is you ! You are the best deterrent to any form of malware.

If you practice Safe Hex, your chances of being infected is greatly diminished.

http://www.claymania.com/safe-hex.html

If you don't practice Safe Hex, all the software in the world won't make up for it.

However, the best tool besides practicing Safe Hex is using anti virus software in an "On
Access" scanning mode.

Kaspersky or NOD32 is suggested.

A firewall, preferably a external firewall/router. That's all. Read
this:

http://www.cablemodemhelp.com/xpsurvivalguide.pdf

Also use sane internet apps (not IE/OE). Use one of the Gecko browsers
or Opera. Delete all unsolicited email attackments. That's it. That's
all there is to it. You should never take any hits. You should not
need any kind of realtime scanner(s) running and wasting resources.
also if I do get something what
programs do I need to get rid of it ?

David Lipman's mult-av or KASFX from my web site (based on KAV).
You should have AdAware and Spybot on hand as well.

You are misleading users into believing they need realtime scanning
rather than knowledge. Bug off, spammer!

Trouble is if you don't use IE, a lot of sites won't work, in particular
online photo sites, they all seem to want to install active x for versatile
uploading. I've had no trouble with IE. I always have a good image of my C
drive, can restore in a matter of minutes if I had to. Normal precautions
are of course always in order and I keep system updated, use Avast and Winxp
firewall..

You need to use a reliable real-time defense system. I can recommend Norton
AntiVirus and Webroot SpySweeper. Neither product is free, but each of them
provides excellent defense. Also, you'll need to keep your system up-to-date
with all of the latest security updates from Microsoft. This usually means
setting XP to update Automatically. The page below details several fine
antispyware programs.

Art,

I am misleading no one. Having real-time scanning is an excellent
preventative measure to have. Even with educated users, there are
always things they "don't know" yet - and the real-time scanning allows
them to learn while not suffering a destroyed or infected system.

As for your comment about "spammer", why don't you look around the web
and the newsgroups and see how many people I help for free and the
positive reactions the users have.

You responded to a post asking what's _required_ for protection.
Software protection is _not_ required, so you're misleading the
OP.

Wrong. It's far better to practice safe hex. Realtime scanning is
a crap shoot.
Even with educated users, there are
always things they "don't know" yet - and the real-time scanning allows
them to learn while not suffering a destroyed or infected system.

It's best to learn protection _without_ depending on it. Otherwise,
you are unlikely to ever take the safe hex approach ... and you'll get
nailed because you depend on your realtime monitor. I've never used
realtime scanning, and I've never had any problems.

I'm quite aware of what you're doing. You're _not_ helping people
learn to protect their machines. You're spamming them. So bug off.
