I've got an old 40 GB HD that I'm replacing with a new 120 GB HD. What I
want to do is make the new one drive C: and the old one which is currently C
to D. I want to keep the data on the old drive. I want the new drive to be
the default bootable drive and if I could, leave the old drive as is and use
it as a second bootable drive.

Can I do this? How?

TIA

Install the new drive in place of the old one. Install the old drive as
either a slave on the same cable or alone. As the new drive will be
installed on the same cable as the old one it will be shown as the C: drive
and Windows will boot from it. Of course, you will need to install Windows
on that drive, formatting and partitioning it as desired.

I've done as follows:

Install new drive as slave to old drive (master/slave jumpers etc)
Booted DriveImage2002 and COPIED drive master -> slave
Powered down, jumpered new drive as master, didn't connect old drive at that
time
Booted, verified all was working, at which point I jumpered old drive as
slave and connected it
(All jumpering done with power off, off course)

With most new drives there should come a CD of floppy with manufacturer
provided disk copying program and manual (naturally, not necessary with bulk
disks)....
