Okay, I understand there is a problem with XP and larger HDs. I'm shopping
now for a bigger drive and need to do some research on the topic.

What is the maximum drive I can get with XP Home? Can somebody point me in
the right direction here?

Thanks,
Bill

2 TB max. => 2,048 GB.

The limitation you are thinking about is the one for pre SP1 systems (about
137 GB). With SP1 or later installed or an installation CD with SP1 or
later (and LBA 48 turned on) there is virtually unlimited hard drive space
available.

See Bob Willards post for the total hard drive space on one drive that SP 1
or later versions of XP will address. And that is on one physical hard
drive.

Thanks for the info. I can't find Willards post on total hd space. It's
not on my server.

Thanks again,
Bill

I see. Thanks. My other concern was with the BIOS version but I have
researched that and it appears that I have the updated BIOS to support
137G. We'll give it a shot here perhaps later today.

Thanks for the help. Oh...I'll be dumping my old drive onto my new and then
formatting the old one as the backup for data. Any words of wisdom? I have
installed new drives in the past but don't recollect the entire process.

Thanks again.

What do you mean by "dumping my old drive onto my new"?

I mean transferring all the data and making the new drive the boot drive. I
will also be partitioning, which is a new thing for me.

Thanks,
Bill
