Karen

Win XP with Outlook 2000.

Just installed a new hard drive and used the drive's
utility program to copy everything from my old drive
(FAT) to the new drive (NFTS).

But now Outlook isn't sending or receiving. If I try to
send, I get the "no transport provider available" message.

I've got two Internet Mail services set up. Usually, when
I download my messages, I get the sending/receiving
dialog box twice (once for each service). Now, that box
flashes ultra quickly on the screen once, but it's
obviously not hitting the server.

I tried deleting my two services and then rebuilding
them, but that didn't help.

I looked at that. Here's what I can tell you:

A damaged Personal folder - Removed it, recreated it,
thought I had lost all my data, freaked out, found it, re-
imported it.

The installation of Microsoft Outlook is damaged. -
Possible, I guess.

Outlook has been removed - That's not it. Outlook's still
there and otherwise working.

No mail transport service in the mail profile. - Not sure
what exactly this means.

Improperly configured mail transport in the mail
profile. - Same as previous.

A damaged contact within a distribution list. - I doubt
this is it. I wasn't sending to a DL.

A damaged contact. - I doubt this is it, as I wasn't
sending to a contact.

An apostrophe in your computer name. - Not a problem.

The mail server is expecting the addresses to be enclosed
in angle (<>) brackets. - I doubt this is it.

The mail server doesn't recognize your IP address. - ???

The POP3 enabled Microsoft Exchange Server you are
connecting to is not properly configured for Secure
Socket Layer (SSL) authentication. - There hasn't been
any change on that end.

No Delivery or Address Type for Microsoft Mail Service -
???

Do you still have Outlook Express installed? Outlook 2000 needs Outlook
Express to function properly.

Also make sure your mailservers are configured properly. You might want to
try the advanced server options. On the tab Outgoing Server check/uncheck
the options My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

I'll certainly double check on OE, but I was sending and
receiving emails just prior to this installation, so
unless something was lost in the drive-to-drive copying,
I'm not sure why that would be an issue. Would I be best
off just re-installing Outlook? Can I re-install OE only
from my Office disk? And, if I do re-install Outlook
and/or OE, how much stuff am I going to have to rebuild
(services, folders, rules, etc.)?

I've checked and double checked all my settings -- none
have changed and for the one that I know requires server
authentication, I've got that checked.

Thanks so much for your help.
