My daughter just purchased a new WD1200 (120 Gig EIDE). I couldn't get past
her bios checks with it, I put it on my machine as a slave on the primary
channel and it gets past being recognized but then I get a screen load of 00
99 99 99 99 99 99 99 etc... and freeze. I've not seen this before and am
thinking its just a screwed HD?

I don't know about the freezing part, but keep in mind WD drives have to be
set to single (not master) if they are the only drive on an IDE channel. It
should have come like that.

Otherwise, is your computer fairly new or have you updated the Bios?

I unplugged my secondary 160 Gig WD drive and set this one as secondary,
plugged it in and 99 99 99 99 99 99 99

It could be a problem with your PC, try it in another machine.

Double-check the jumpers (on it AND the other drive if other
drive has seperate master and single drive jumer settings)
then try booting to a WD Diagnostics Floppy... which can
either be made from the CD that comes with retail packaged
drives or downloaded from WD's website.
