I recently purchased a larger hard drive that I am about to install in
my computer. I am running Windows XP and I know that I should install
Win XP from the CD I received from Dell and the other programs I have
installed should be installed from their CDs.

Once I do that, can I install my present hard drive as a slave and copy
the files on that hard drive to the new drive so that I get Windows XP
to operate the way I have it set up ? Or do I have to modify the way Win
Xp works manually. I also want the other programs that I have adjusted
to work properly. (Word processor, Norton Anti-Virus, etc)

I know I can transfer my data files this way, but also want to transfer
files that tell Win XP and Norton (such as keeping the information that
tells Norton I have an account) and cookies for the internet etc.

How do I do this ? My computer is presently working just the way I want
it to, and I don't want to loose that.

David,

If you're satisfied with the way your present
installation is working, you can probably transfer it, as
is, to the new hard drive. Generally, the hard drive
manufacturer offers a free utility to do that. You just
install the new drive as primary and your old drive as
slave and run the utility to transfer the contents. Check
the website of your new hard drive manufacturer.

Hope this helps,
Milt
