How do I move my first windows 2000 server to new
hardware? In NT you would promote a BDC to a PDC, demote
the PDC, remove it from the domain and upgrade.

How do I do this in Windows 2000 Server?

I can not find an article to acheive this!

Any help much appreciated.

Transfer the FSMO roles to the new server.
See:
HOW TO: View and Transfer FSMO Roles in the Graphical User Interface

Move the Global Catalog if it resides on the first DC.

See:

How to: Create or Move a Global Catalog in Windows 2000

Make sure your clients don't point to the first DC for DNS. If so set up the
second DC with DNS and make it AD integrated, this will replicate the DNS
info to the new server, then use DHCP to supply clients with the new DNS
server's IP address.

If you use login scripts, change to reflect the new DC IP/name.
