New Hardware Wizard -- Cannot install this Hardware

Bought a new Maxtor hard drive. Tried to install it to my
HP pavilion 753n running Windows XP Home. Installed per
instruction book but when rebooted, got Found New
Hardware Wizard Box:
Cannot install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this Hardware
Maxtor 6Y120PO
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed
service
Click Finish to close the Wizard.

Once I click Finish, When I go to My Computer it shows
New Hard drive as DSK2_VOL1 (G:)
When I go to Disk Management, shows Disk 1 Basic Online
Healthy (Active)
The only place that shows any problem is Device Manager-
properties show "The drivers for this device are not
installed. (Code 28)
I can copy files to and from the new disk.

Maxblast Software that came with the new drive, will not
run- says no Maxtor drive found on system.

I have been emailing Hp and Maxtor for more than a week,
with no help. Maxtor says there is no driver on their
disks because drivers are already on system.

I have a older pavilion running Windows ME and the hard
drive installed on it great. I tried the drive from it,
Quantum Fireball drive, and it does the same on the 753n.

All updates from Microsoft have been installed.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I have tried
everything I can think of and nothing has helped.

Did you set the jumpers on both hds.Is the hd formated,
try running solo,w/o current hd(unplug current hd,set
new to master),install xp cd,boot to cd,recovery,type:
FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs xp will change it back to G:.
When format is over,type:EXIT Shutdown computer,reset
jumpers reconnect current hd,start.You can even have it
chk the hd,type:CHKDSK C: /p After the format
 
I set jumpers on both hds. Both to Cable select and
to master and Slave. Same problem.
Disk has been formatted.
The computer came with no recovery disks or XP disks.
Has recovery on hard drive.
Hp_Pavilion (C:) HP_Recovery (D:)
Ran Chkdsk on G: Came back ok - found no problem
