hi all

time to add a new hdd,
is maxtor anygood?? or should i just stick with seagate.

thanks in advance

However, how do you rank that decision on Maxtor's 1 year warranty with
Seagate's 5 yr warranty for practically the same price?

.... as a good reason to choose Seagate instead, although
often in the past Maxtor had been running a lot of rebates
such that they were substantially cheaper in the mid to
lower capacity sizes.

Yeah Seagate was one of the last makers to run deep discount rebate
sales. When they did recently I think their warranties were much
shorter. WD did the samething. Luckily there have been a few rebate
sales recently going on at Frys and a few other places with warranties
that are still 5 years like FRYs. They are running one now at
outpost.com 69.99 200 gb 5 yrs.

thanks everyone...

Yep I bought one of those Fry's/Outpost 160GB @ $50 AR, it
does have 5 yr. warranty. Pretty sure that deal is dead now
but the 200GB deal is still good for 4 more days as per the
rebate,

I heard Officemax might have a better deal on Black Friday
though... might've been 200GB for $50 AR, IIRC.

Had 1 Maxtor 120 that died, a 200 that died. All replaced under warranty,
which was great. Bought a Hitachi 160g for the main operating system, and my
250 Maxtor is for storage. So far so good with Hitachi....

Compusa recently started getting close to matching the FRYs deal but I
cant remember if they offered a 5 yr warranty. Im always tempted to
buy HDs even if I dont need one at the moment.

For me - buying from OUTPOST adds about 25-35 in shipping
unfortunately so compusa is a much better deal if they come close in
price.
