Hi I am getting a new bigger faster hard drive for my computer and was
wondering if the following scenario would work?

Put new hard drive in computer as a slave. fdisk and format it copy
everything from old hard drive to new hard drive. Remove old hard drive. set
new hard drive as master, fit in computer and boot. Or is that too simple
and will not work.

Thanks Sophie

set up as slave.
ghost c to d.
set up as master.

Sophie, what I did:

Fitted new hard drive as master and moved old disk to slave. Fdisked and
installed ME on new drive. Transferred documents from old to new.
Formatted old drive and use as back-up.

Later on, reformatted new drive and upgraded to XP.

Sophie,
Did just as you describe a couple weeks ago. I installed a Western Digital
HDD which comes with software to copy your old HDD to your new. Other
brands maybe do the same.

Yes you can do this but after reconnecting the new drive as Master leave the
old drive disconnected and boot he new system to ensure that it is being
seen as "C". Sometimes you end up with another drive letter. Once you've
booted once with the new drive you can shutdown and connect the old drive as
Slave, repartition, reformat and use it as you will.
