new hard drive

I installed a new western digital hard drive, and did the
system drive copy.... when I try to boot into the new
drive windows hangs at the logo screen

I have an AMD 2200+, ati 8500 dv..

When I reinstall the old drive, It boots just fine

Do you not get any error message? I'm thinking activation
may be the problem, but you would usually be warned. You
see, i assume windows was activated on your old drive.
Therefore, copying the drive contents to a new drive
would immediately cause problems in the sense that the
activation count wouldn't add up - your hard drive serial
number being that of your old drive, whereas xp would be
presented with the serial number of your new drive.
See if you can boot into safe mode and see if any error
messages occur, especially anything to do with activation.
