I installed a new hard drive Seagate 160MB, and used the
format option for the drive. This was ok, and computer
started to format drive. Too an hour and the it said
Windows was unable to complete the format.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am using Windows XP

I had this same error with a Dell laptop, if at the end
it says; "the disk may be damaged" with "unable to format
the partition" as the first part of the error message. I
was able to format the NTFS file system successfuly with
the hard drive removed from the laptop and connected to my
Gateway desktop PC with a IDE adapter. But I do not know
what the actual cause of this problem is.
