Hi I have a new hard disk and have tried to move all the data from my old
hard disk to the new one. the software that came with my Maxtor hard drive
was unsuccessful as some of the programs no longer worked. I used Norton
ghost but then I could not get past the windows xp ( home edition ) splash
screen. How can I successfully transfer all of my windows and the rest of
the data from one to the other?
thanks,
Hal Pryor

If you're referring to all the integrated with the operating system data, for example your programs with their settings, files etc., it's not that simple. You can use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard in Accessories>System Tools. It makes a record and then a new XP installation can read and employ it. But you can't move XP and expect it to work.

Ghost or Drive Image should do the trick. I've done it a number of times.

If you image the drive correctly it should work just like the old one.

wow I guess I should have read the ghost help better it told me not to
reboot until I reset the slave to master after the copy and it worked like a
charm. it uses pc dos and does a great job of cloning one to the other.
thanks for the help.
Hal
