Hey,

I'm currently running an 256mb X700, and am beginning to think a new card would be an idea. Trouble is, I've probably only got £60/70.

Is there anything available at this price, or is it not worth it, and I should wait a bit longer.

Ta.

What's the rest of your system like, as it may depend on that if it's going to be a bottleneck :)

The Radeon 1950 Pro would be worth saving up for .

Thatss a nice card, but if you can strech £15 more go for the X1950XT. A very good card.

The power requirment between the two cards is minimal at most. Its just the 1950XT has slightly higher clock speeds. ;)

As I said to someone a few days ago, your looking at roundabout a 450w psu to keep your head above ground.

An twelve more Pixel Shaders :D

Another quick question, in terms of the X series, where does the 700 sit? I've heard tell that it isn't necessarily the case that the higher the number the better the card, with the X700 better than some of the X1000 series. Is this right?

might be better off with an extra gig of ram before you upgrade ur card - cos if you wait another 3 - 6 months, cards will get much cheaper
you could always overclock ur card till you save up

I was considering the extra gig actually, perhaps a cheaper way of improving performance in the short run before splashing out on a new card...

Getting another gig won't give you anything like the graphics performance difference a new card like an x1950 will.

Basically, the x700 was the mid range card card from a few generations ago, but is pretty similar to the x1600s - the current mid ranges.
