Hi
Boot in safe mode and login as administrator. go to device manager and unistall the nvidia display adapter
Then go to add or remove program and remove the nvidia drivers
After reboot, windows should find new hardware and install the drivers from windows update site. Do not interrupt and let windows install the drivers
Afterall, if the PC works fine, go to nvidia.com and download the latest XP compatible drivers version 56.72 and save it to a specific folder. Reboot the PC, temporarily disable any antivirus softwares. Open the specific folder where the nvidia drivers is saved. Double click the nvidia icon and let it runs. Do not disturb until it finishes. Reboot the machine when prompted
Note: never update the display drivers from windows update site as it is only a generic drivers, some features from nvidia are not included
Hope it helps
