Perhaps there is a need for a new category on this forum
called "Microsoft Bashing" so the more highly excitable
readers can vent and spew their anti-Microsoft sentiments
and flame everything they perceive to be at fault. This
would then leave the remaining categories available for
useful product discussions as they were intended. If
readers find MSAS not to their liking, why not just say
so with a reason why and let it go. Why launch into a
anti-Microsoft rant that helps no one. The MVP's and
others are providing a valuable service here. Its not a
perfect world...grow up!

Well, let holy MS do what they want and
we will have one upperclass with PC users that
removes all ad/spyware with different tools.
Young well educated people will remove it.

Then we will have a lower class with PCs filled
with adjunk like Claria, WhenU etc.

But maybe this is good ?

Rumours says that this MSAS adventure started beacuse
Bill Gates really hates ad/spyware and I dont belive that
this was his vision about MSAS.

But maybe this is a short time lifejacket for IE6 and
it will be builtin IE7 ?

Hi Plun,

I think MSAS have to respond to vendors requests to
downgrade their products if they have provided a easy way
for users to remove their software. If MSAS
recommends 'remove' on products which now can easily be
removed using the add/remove screen then it could lead to
all sorts of legal proceedings being taken out again
Microsoft.

Nobody wants this crap on their pc's but in the same
sense no one will have this crap if they pay attention to
what they are downloading.

Spybot ignores CDilla/New.net and Sidestep, Adaware
ignores new.net in their scans so its not just MS Antispy
(Ive no doubt Adaware ignores more but its hard finding
the evidence,At least MSAS are being open with everyone
about the ignore settings)

Only time will tell if its a bad move but im happy enough
if they are set to 'ignore' as long as its still
detecting the problem and removing them because the
problem will only be there if you visit their sites and
download the products which i know i would not do and any
users who just click yes to every download they see
really have bigger problems than just the 'ignore'
settings in MSAS.

Hi Andy

I have no problem with this, I know where I find
tools for removals for everything.

But for a broader mass of normal users this is a challenge
and the only way I can see solves this is to use the same
procedure as Lavasoft with TAC points.

But maybe this is good, this "second class" user can make
MSN directors happy and fill their pies and charts with
statistics. ;)

But to avoid legal proceedings a point system is needed
and maybe MS must make this public !?

About TAC ranking, several pages !

Hi Plun ,

I agree with you mate it would be alot easier if these
downgrades were released through Microsoft statements
rather than screen shots going round ,If MS made people
aware why they had made the changes and why these
products in MS's view are no longer a threat it would
make it alot easier for people to respect their views,

There must be a valid reason why these products are being
downgraded but MS are not saying what that is so i
understand this is going to cause problems for alot of
users so hopefully MS will explain the latest downgrades
before adding more items to the ignore list because it
will get to the point where users will lose faith in MSAS
if they keep making decisions behind closed doors and not
passing on their views to the user.

Its hard to know what the answer should be but i respect
your view that a antispy solution should be just that,it
does seem pointless if you have to use 2 or 3 removers to
detect all the problems, but with this being beta im happy
to go with the flow for now and not judge MSAS untill its
alot closer to release.Id like to think this downgrades
are not final and if the adware changes so will the
default setting in MSAS but we will have to wait and see
what happens

Andy

You all make valid points and this discussion is exactly
what this forum is all about, as you well know. But your
comments are not flaming, while some others are. I don't
always agree with MS (nor am I in any way associated with
it) and disagreement with discussion is constructive,
flaming is not. That's all...

Yup,thats all ! :)

And this is indeed something difficult
with different aspects with no easy answer.

Yes my point is that this is unfair
against normal users beacuse we will
have one upper class with knowlegde
about this and how to remove this junk.

But this is big business and as I wrote
this is maybe good ?!

Over and out.

Hey Plun,
< Young well educated people will remove it.>
You have something against me? I don't fit into that category very neatly.
